Big Hair

This week I have been feeling Big Hair inspired by Marilyn Monroe from the film The Misfits. When I pin curl my hair it gives it tonnes of volume, which makes it very easy to backcomb! I adored Marilyn's hair like this, I found it simply adorable but as always glamorous. Here are some photo's below of Marilyn wearing this style -

This week

This week has consisted of rather chilly weather, watching movies and plenty of hot drinks! Here are a couple of photographs of my past week.
I have started to practice again with this slight 'updo' hair tucked underneath style which can be worn in different ways. Sometimes I can get this style perfect, I love the sleekness of this style.

Some like it Hot - one of my all time favorite movies! This was my first Marilyn film that I ever watched and my love for her after this film just grew and grew. No matter how many times I have watched this film, I can never ever get bored of it. Full of love, comedy and drama.
My youngest sister Sienna turned five! I have three younger sisters and so she is the little baby of us all, already she is eyeing up some of my dresses that she wants me to keep for her.
Me and two of my lovely friends from work Charlie and Izzy on Saturday.
Outfit from Saturday - All items are Vintage. The fur coat was passed to me from one of my Grandma's friends, it's from the 1930's . I simply adore it and everyone else seems to also. Underneath I was wearing a black and white pleated polka dot vintage dress, with vintage faux fur hat & vintage handbag.
I'm very excited for next week, one of my sponsors are sending me my dress so I can't wait to show you all what it looks like! More outfit & hair posts will be up and coming!

Decoration

There is nothing nicer than being surrounded by pretty things when getting ready, therefore I love decorating my room with vintage trinklets. I especially love Vintage grooming pieces, so I thought I would show you my favourite dressing table set today for this post.
I found this three piece in a Charity Shop - Silver Plated & Boxed. I could not resist! I like to place these pieces on my dressing table to add a dashing of old glamour.
Mirror Mirror on the wall. (hehe! excuse the fuzzy quality)

Today I had not felt well so of course my cure for everything is Tea. I collect teapots and tea cups so here is another tea cup appreciation photo!
Do any of you collect any vintage decoration pieces or teacups? I would adore to see them!

Outfit of today

It's the weekend (yay) and it's my first weekend that I don't have to work - this is a rare occasion! I love to relax on my weekends off so today I spent some time shopping & sipping tea.
I hope next week to post some more hair tutorials that have been requested by some followers over on Tumblr plus how I shape my eyebrows and eyeliner.
More on today - I wore my red polka dot dress from Topshop.
I adore polka dots therefore when this dress came into work, I knew I was going to buy it instantly. I have lost count on the amount of polka dot dresses I own but this one is perfect for winter, as it looks so sweet with an angora cardigan.
I felt like wearing a hat today so I decided on one of my beret's. I think hats are great at completing an outfit, especially when I feel like something is missing. I'm starting to build up a collection of vintage hats especially faux fur ones!

I will leave you with a photo of my favorite tea in one of my favorite tea cups.
I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekends.

My Make Up Bag

Quite often I'm asked which make up products I use to achieve my day to day look. I'm never seen without my flicked eyeliner, shaped eyebrows and of course lipstick - preferably red.
My Make Up bag consists of quite a few different brands, some more expensive than others but once I find a product that works, it becomes a staple. To me I find products for the skin most important, as there is nothing nicer than having a clear bright healthy complexion. Having a good skincare routine before applying make up is always a must - cleanse, tone and always moisturise. It's a much easier job to blend in your make up and plus your skin will be extra clean and fresh.
So here is a overlook of what I use -
From below left to right: Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation, Mac Studio Finish Concealer, ArtDeco Dita Von Teese Compact Powder, 2000 Calorie Max Factor Mascara, No7 Stay Precise Liner. Underneath: Soap and Glory Trick and Treatment Under Eye Concealer, ArtDeco Dita Von Teese Lip Liner
Above - These four products above conceal my face pretty well. I'm particularly a fan of the Mac Studio Finish Concealer, I have used this for two years and religiously will always be in my Make Up bag. It's quite thick but blends over any blemish quite lightly, it has great staying power. Another great fact about this concealer is I have only had to buy two pots in two years, it lasts for such a long time. I use this alongside with my other concealer Tick and Treatment by Soap and Glory, it helps to get rid of any dark circles under the eyes.
The Dita Von Teese Face Powder is fantastic if you have pale skin like myself, the powder is ever so soft and light - this powder does exactly what it's says on the tin. Not to forget how beautiful the packaging is.
I try to wear foundation on a day to day basis and only for special occasions, the Clarins Skin Illusion Foundation gives the skin a beautiful glow whilst perfecting the skin, however I have found the shade a little too much on the warm side.
Eye Make Up. I will talk about Max Factor, i use the eyebrow pencil and 2000 calorie mascara. The eyebrow pencil is easy to glide along the eyebrows and great for shape as I like to exaggerate my arch, it's my favourite eyebrow pencil so far. The same goes for Max Factor Mascara, I have been using this brand since I was 16 and I usually tend to regret it if i pick a different brand.
I tend not to decorate my eyes too much apart from my flicks, I have only just started to experiment with eyeshadows, at the moment I enjoy neutral colours or light slivers. As a base I use ArtDeco Eyeshadow Base, it's a lovely colour and gives any other eyeshaow I apply staying Power.
Liquid eyeliner of the moment is No 7 Stay Precise, the brush is great at creating perfect flicks.

Blusher by Avon and Glow All Out Glow Powder by Soap and Glory
Here is my current selection of Lipsticks. A mix of brands Max Factor, Rimmel, Art Deco and No7. I like a selection of reds, I really like my No7 lipsticks which are Moisture Drench in Siren and Stay Perfect in Cherry.
Here are two shades by the Rimmel Kate Moss collection, I sometimes like a bright pink for a change or an inbetween shade of pink & red.
Here is me wearing the Kate Rimmel shade is colour '110'. I also thought I could show my hair today as I like to use my days off as time to experiment and perfect styles. Today I felt inspired to try a style often worn by Dita Von Teese, as my hair was misbehaving a little today it's not as perfect as I would like it to be, but on one side (flower side) it worked out just how I wanted. I shall try it out again tonight and post the results and hopefully a tutorial. :)

Lots of love

Fifties Set

I thought it would be a good time to write another post about hair again, as you may know I like to roll my hair in different ways to achieve different looks. For a month or so now I had been wearing it in a very curly bob or fully brushed curls for a more daytime look. As it's near Christmas time and the parties are getting closer I thought I would try out the fifties set again, to me it looks so effortlessly glamourous. You would have seen Marilyn Monroe wear this style immaculately and stars of today such as Scarlet t Johansson wear a similar look. Here I have scanned in a tutorial that I do follow from a book called 'Style me Vintage' by Belinda Hay. The book is full of various looks from different decades to replicate, this 'Fifties Set' I do find very easy to follow.
Here is a little information about this hairstyle that may be of interest to some of you. This style has been called the 'Marilyn Set'
''Women in the forties and fifties would spend hours styling their hair. It was usual to make regular weekly trips to the hairdresser for a shampoo and set. During the war, when money was tight, the weekly trips may have become fortnightly trips - this is when tying scarves came in very handy. Women would also  have their own set of rollers and learned to roll up and pin curl their own hair at home. It wasn't unusual for women to spend all day working around the house with rollers in, setting their hair ready for their evening out'' (Taken from Style Me Vintage by Belinda Hay)
For this style you will need:
Rollers and Pins
Pin-tail comb
Portable dryer
Styling Products
-For myself or anyone this style can be adjusted to suit you. For myself I like to use bendy rollers partly for comfort as I like a good nights sleep, secondly I rarely roll wet/damp hair because in the morning I'm usually disappointed to find at least one wet strand of straight hair, which really can ruin the whole look but if you are very cautious and careful then I would suggest rolling damp hair - just make sure to dry it well!
A hairspray is a good staying product to invest it to hold your style, I personally can't live without Tresemme Freeze Hold hairspray, it has helped my hair stay through rain and wind!
Another hint would be to use a setting lotion or mousse. Be careful with setting lotion as it can make the hair go very hard, I once made that mistake so now I like to use a mousse.
Here are the steps to follow and I hope they are helpful to some of you!

Here is the finished look, very glamorous and gorgeous.

On Monday I thought I would try out this look again. I love this look because I love the volume it gives to the front section of my hair. For the top section of my hair I used Large rollers and for underneath I used medium. If I wanted a more curly and 'springy' look I would have used the small and medium sized rollers. If you are interested in which rollers I use, I purchased mine from Amazon - they have been very trusty to me as I have had them for a year. You can check them out here .

A back few of my curls and a few other shots of me with this style. It really does make me feel so glamorous wearing this style. If you have anymore questions please let me know!

If you have any questions or want to see anything about another hairstyle I would love to hear from you.

Ruby Tuesday

Good Evening!

I have quite a fascination with lipstick, of course red lipstick. Just having one is just not enough, I have a draw full. I have an everyday red, an evening red, a 'vampy' to a more delicate red. I think it's important to have a selection as you may think a red is just a 'red' but really there is such a difference.
I wanted to go for a lipstick which more of a shine and a glossy look and so a came across Max Factor's Colour Elixir Lipstick in shade '715 Ruby Tuesday'. I could not help but be persuaded to buy this shade as I found out it was Marilyn Monroe's favourite shade and she herself Marilyn named the lipstick 'Ruby Tuesday'. Being a Marilyn lover of course I had to buy it.

The packaging is utterly gorgeous, the gold screams glamour!  You can see instantly the shine.

Looks very pretty on my dressing table.

This lipstick is easy to apply, it glides on well and makes my mouth feel very moisturised! I applied a couple of coats so the impact of colour was brighter.

Above with the lisptick having a few hours of wear, don't forget I drink many cups of tea and I found the colour stayed perfectly. :) This will now sit amongst one of my favourites!
I would love to know if any of you have a favourite lipstick or stash a collection like myself?

A week in the cold breeze

Hello darlings! This week has gotton ever so cold so in between of trying to keep warm, I was rummaging through some Charity Shops and found some beautiful finds! Inlcuding two Vintage evening bags possibly dated from the 1920s-1930s, perfect for me as I'm a avid handbag hoarder!

Wrapping up warm in my 1930's Fur Coat, given to me from a friend of my Grandma's.  I'm so grateful, I now don't have to myself a new winter coat!

Above are my two evening bags. I can't believe they were just £5 each. A couple of weeks ago I was swooning for the one on the right, at the time it was £15. Sadly as the Retro Room has now gone many of the items had been sold or reduced!

I have never came across a handbag like this one before, it's ever so delicate. This is going to look great on display on one of my dressing tables. The material is very thin and some inside is a little tatty and worn, yet I love the character it has to it.

This evening bag is the in the most divine condition with just a couple of sequins missing on the back. I just love sequins and small detailing like this bag has. It can make any cocktail dress look glamorous. I can see myself showing this bag off for possibly Christmas parties this season. I see so many copies of this style handbag on the high street, it's timeless.

My second find of this week was a silver plated dressing table set including a mirror, hairbrush and comb.  This set has really glammed up my dressing table. I will take some much better photographs of this set next week, I have already used the mirror for a photoshoot.

Bargain High Street find. Some of you may know I work part time in Topshop, there are some pro's to working in a shop for example this one! I was just tidying away and found this gorgeous dress hid behind some others, looked at the price tag £65...did a sneaky price check and it was £30! This dress is much better quality than what I'm used to with Topshop, the material is very heavy like an original 1950s dress. I can't wait to take some photo's of myself in this one :)

Lastly I got asked by a very kind lady if she could photograph me today. I loved the sound of the photoshoot as it was street style inspired! I wore this original 1950s dress from Goldfinches and I can't wait to see the photo's from the shoot!

I hope you have all had a great week.
Lots of love Demi xxx
